Jerry Weinstein

Colorado Rockies Scouting and Player Development

Jerry has been active in International baseball as head coach of the USA representative in the 1970 University Games, assistant coach of the USA team in the 1989 Pan Am Games, the 1992 Olympic Team, the 1996 Olympic Team (Bronze Medal), and head coach of the 2004 USA Maccabiah Team (Gold Medal). He has spoken at clinics in Italy, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Germany.

In professional baseball, Jerry has been the Brewers catching coordinator, managed for the Expos, Cubs, and for the Rockies in the California League. He also was catching coordinator for the Dodgers and later Director of Player Development for the Dodgers. From 2012-2017, Jerry served as the Catching Coordinator for the Rockies. Jerry is currently the Director of Scouting and Player Development for the Colorado Rockies.

Weinstein managed Team Israel at the 2017 World Baseball Classic qualifier, leading them to a perfect 3-0 record, qualifying Israel for their first World Baseball Classic appearance. He returned as the head coach in the main tournament, managing Team Israel at the 2017 World Baseball Classic in South Korea
and Japan in March 2017, where the team was 4-2 overall in the tournament.

Pat Bailey

Former National Championship Head Coach, Oregon State University

After a successful stint that included a NCAA Division National Championship at George Fox, Pat joined
the Oregon State Beavers as an assistant coach in 2008 and was promoted to associate head coach in October 2013. The Beavers won the NCAA Division I World Series in 2013 with Coach Bailey as Associate Head Coach. 

Bailey was promoted to Head Coach of the Beavers in 2019 when he led the squad to a 39-20 season.

Prior to his move to Oregon State, Bailey led George Fox for 12 seasons, winning a Division III national title with the Bruins in 2004. Bailey compiled a 353-158 record – he is the winningest coach in school history – and earned National Coach of the Year honors after that 2004 national title. He was an eight-time Northwest Conference Coach of the Year honoree. During Bailey’s tenure, the Bruins won or shared eight Northwest Conference titles. George Fox advanced to the NCAA tournament six times and to the NAIA playoffs twice before moving to the NCAA.

Coach Bailey has now embarked on a new career and is an Area Director with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

John Vodenlich

Head Coach (19 years), University of Wisconsin – Whitewater

John Vodenlich recently completed his 19th season at the helm of the UW-Whitewater baseball program in 2021-22. He has taken the Warhawks to heights unreached prior to his arrival on campus.While the UW-Whitewater program has had longstanding success, Vodenlich has set a new standard, turning the Warhawks into a NCAA Division III college baseball power.

He entered the 2020 season ranked fourth among active Division III coaches in winning percentage and 29th in wins, and 14th all time in Division III history in winning percentage.

During Vodenlich’s 18 full seasons as head coach, the Warhawks have won 14 Wisconsin Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference championships, qualified for the NCAA Championships 16 times and appeared in the NCAA Division III College World Series six times, including winning the 2014 and 2005 NCAA Division III National Championships.

UW-Whitewater has swept the WIAC regular season and tournament championships in two of the last three seasons (2019, 2021) and is currently on a streak of appearing in 14 straight NCAA Tournaments. The team most recently won the NCAA Whitewater Regional and finished as NCAA Whitewater Super Regional runner-up in 2022.

Bill Percy

St. Mary’s High School, Colorado Springs / ABCA Hall of Famer

ABCA Hall of Famer Coach Percy’s influence in the game of baseball has spanned the globe. Beyond his great success at St. Mary’s High School in his home state of Colorado, Coach Percy also has numerous years of experience at the highest levels of national and international baseball. 

Percy formerly served as the 3rd Base Coach for Great Britain in the World Baseball Classic, is a MLB Envoy European Clinician, former Croatian National Team Head Coach, and acted as the head coach of the USA Junior National
Team.

Percy, who has over 38 years of coaching experience, is also the Director of Clinics for the Colorado High School Baseball Coaches Association and has served that post since 1996. He is a past president of that association and in 2010 was inducted into the Colorado Dugout Club’s inaugural Hall of Fame class.

Pete Caliendo

Baseball USA Coach & International Sports Group

Peter Caliendo started his baseball career at the World-Famous Mickey Owen Baseball School where he started as a student, then became a counselor and at the young age of 17 began his coaching career with the 12 u program. Then worked his way as Director of Instruction for the 12u program. 

During this time,
he met, who would become his great friend and mentor Dick Birmingham. After 10 years at Mickey Owen Pete started a satellite program in the Chicago land area called Baseball Schools USA, a division of Mickey Own Baseball School. He set up over 25 schools throughout the Chicago land area which averaged over 60 players a camp.

Pete worked 8 years in Independent Professional baseball starting as a coach with the Thunder Bay Whiskey Jacks in the Northern League, as well as Coach/Director Baseball Operations for the Chicago
based team the Schaumburg Flyers where he assembled rosters that went to the playoffs. He continued in Independent baseball to put together teams for the North Shore Spirit who went to the World Series its first year in the league and other teams that went to the playoffs. Caliendo has over 26 players who
signed with Affiliate baseball and 2 that played in the major leagues.

Pete brings unmatched experience and expertise to the development of baseball skills to players and coaches. His vast knowledge and worldwide presence has earned Pete immeasurable respect within the
baseball community. His devotion to the game of baseball is greatly admired by those who have crossed his path.

Pete is currently the President of Caliendo Sports International, a worldwide baseball company that
trains individuals, teams, coaches, parents and deals in professional baseball operations worldwide. Pete’s company takes teams, coaches, players and parents all over the world to experience international and cultural experience. Training volunteer coaches has been a specialty of Caliendo Sports International for over 30 years. Pete is a large proponent of a national certification program for volunteer coaches for the purpose of long term development of players. He developed a set of 7 baseballs instructional DVD’s which have over 100 games, drills and skills for organizing a fun practice and more. His 30 plus years of training coaches around the world continues by being a volunteer as Vice president of the International Sports Group a nonprofit organization which host coaches training programs around the world for over
25 years.

Internationally renowned, Pete served as the Director and Coach of the Pan Am Baseball Association, a pilot program started by the former CEO of USA Baseball Dick Case. This organization won 3 gold and 3
silver medals for the USA in the Pan Am Games, including the Gold over Cuba. From the 6 years
countless players went on to play college baseball and over 24 players made it to the Major Leagues. His experience also includes coaching the Belgium Baseball Federation National Team and former USA Baseball National Team coach with the 1999 Team USA, a team with professionals that competed in
Australia’s Intercontinental Cup the year before the Olympics in Australia.

Pete continues to serve over 15 years on the World Baseball Softball Confederation, formerly the International Baseball Federation, on the Tournament Committee. He has worked the Olympics in Beijing, Olympic Qualifier in Havana, Cuba, Pan Am Games in Rio, Brazil, World Cup in Europe, Taiwan, Japan and also the World Baseball Classic in Japan. During the World Baseball Classic, he was very fortunate to work along Hall of Fame Manager Tony LaRussa.

Pete has worked two World Children’s Baseball Fair’s in Japan along Legendary Home Run King Sadahara Oh. The WCBF has top coaches from around the world and over 200 kids who participate in the camp. In 2016 he also interviewed Oh for his baseball educational podcast called Baseball Outside the Box.

Pete has spoken in over 20 countries, BCA and 9 high school baseball association conventions. Currently wrote a book on 100 baseball drills published by Human Kinetics which can be purchased on Amazon and endorsed by several ABCA Hall of Fame Coaches and Hall of Fame MLB General Manager Roland
Hemond.

In January 2011 Pete received the American Baseball Coaches Association Meritorious award. He also is the host of an international baseball educational podcast for coaches, players and parents called Baseball Outside the
box.

Darren Fenster

Boston Red Sox Infield Coordinator / 2020 U.S.A. Olympic Team 3rd Base Coach

Darren is the Boston Red Sox Infield Coordinator. His first minor league managing post was in 2013 with the Gulf Coast League Red Sox. He then spent the next four seasons managing the Greenville Drive of the Class A South Atlantic League, winning the team’s first league championship in 2017. 

In 2018, he managed the Portland Sea Dogs of the Double-A Eastern League. Fenster became the Red Sox’ minor league outfield and baserunning coordinator before the 2019 season. In February 2022, Fenster was named minor league infield coordinator for the Red Sox. In April 2021, Fenster was named as a coach for the United States national baseball team, for the team’s final efforts to qualify for baseball at the 2020 Summer Olympics. After the team qualified, Fenster was named the team’s third-base coach for the Olympics. The team went on to win silver, falling to Japan in the gold-medal game.

Jason Ochart

Director of Hitting Boston Red Sox & Driveline Baseball

After studying Kinesiology as a student-athlete, Jason applied a sport science/data-driven approach in his first coaching job at a small California NAIA program, Menlo College, where he worked for 3 years. After the team set multiple offensive records, he caught the attention of Kyle Boddy, founder of Driveline Baseball, who was only training pitchers at the time.

Jason was hired to build the Driveline Hitting department from scratch in September of 2016, which now trains hundreds of hitters per year including multiple MLB MVPs and All Stars.

In 2016, Jason also played overseas as a player-manager in 2016 with the Leksand Lumberjacks of the Swedish Elite League and won the championship.

In 2019, he was hired as the Minor League Hitting Coordinator by the Philadelphia Phillies to lead the development of all minor league hitters in the organization and implement data-driven systems and technology in player development.

After the 2022 season, Jason was hired into his current role by the Boston Red Sox as Director of Hitting Development and Program Design. Jason remains a part-owner and employee of Driveline Baseball.

 

Jeff Brabant

Head Coach, Miles Community College, Montana

The 2021 season was Coach Brabant’s 30th year coaching baseball and 19th year at Miles, and his 12th as the Pioneers’ head coach. Brabant started his coaching career in Miles City with the legion programs from 1992 to 1996 as both assistant and head coaching roles.  

During that tenure, Brabant was part of the 1996 state championship team. Jeff then moved his career to Bozeman to coach the Bucs A legion team in 1997 while finishing his bachelor’s degree at Montana State University.  Brabant then landed a teaching job that fall at Will James Middle School in Billings and also began coaching the Billings Scarlets as their pitching coach and eventual head coach.  While in Billings, the Scarlets won a state championship in 2000.  He also began and completed his master’s degree from the University of Phoenix.

Andrew Kachel

Head Coach, Northeastern Colorado Junior College

Andrew Kachel was named the Head Baseball Coach in the fall of 2019. He returned to Northeastern, this time as a coach, in the fall of 2014.  Kachel played collegiately for Northeastern Junior College,
Montana State-Billings, and Colorado State University-Pueblo. 

Since ending his college baseball career, he has coached for the Springfield Sliders of the Prospect League as Head Assistant, Colorado State University-Pueblo as a Player/Coach, the Colorado Springs Renegades/Cutthroats of the Mile High Collegiate Baseball League as a Head Coach and GM, Adams State University as a Head Assistant Coach and helped start their first-year program, and served as the Pitching and Recruiting Coach at the University of Sioux Falls.

A catcher throughout high school and college, Kachel was part of Northeastern Junior College’s first-ever Region IX Championship. He underwent Tommy John surgery in 2009 but returned in 2010 to lead the
NJC Plainsmen in batting average.

Mark Fuller

Assistant Coach, University of Wisconsin – Whitewater

Mark Fuller enters his 11th year as an assistant coach for the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team in 2022-23. Fuller, a 2015 American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame inductee

and two-time Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association Man of the Year, served for 34 years as head coach at Cumberland High School and for 35 years as head coach of the town’s American Legion program. His teams posted a 482-243 record at Cumberland High, and his Legion teams finished with a 524-321 mark.

During Fuller’s tenure as head coach at Cumberland High School, the Beavers collected 10
conference tournament championships, 13 regional titles and four sectional championships. He currently ranks 11th all-time among Wisconsin high school coaches in career wins.

Fuller has served on the ABCA Clinic Committee six times, and has been a three-time clinician at
ABCA Conventions. He has presented at 10 different state clinics, in seven different European countries and in Canada.

Fuller has also been active as an advocate for baseball around the state. A member of the Wisconsin
Baseball Coaches Association Executive Board for more than 30 years, Fuller has played an integral role in running the WBCA’s state clinic and was a co-founder of the State All-Star Classic. He started and co-authored the Wisconsin State Baseball Yearbook, which was accepted into the Cooperstown
Hall of Fame Library in 2010.

In Northern Wisconsin, Fuller started an area coaches clinic that has been in operation for more than 30 years and was instrumental in building one of the state’s top baseball fields, which stands in the Cumberland community. The field was honored by Turface Sports Products with the 2002 ABCA
Field Maintenance Award.

Fuller retired from coaching baseball at Cumberland in 2013. He remains active in the Cumberland baseball community and currently serves as the high school’s athletic director.

Alper Bozkurt

Youth Sports Coordinator, Untouchables Paderborn / Asst. Coach, U18 German NT

Alper Bozkurt holds a Masters in Sports Science and is the Elite Youth Sports Coordinator for the Paderborn Untouchables (GER). He is also the Assistant Coach for the U18 German National Team.

Alper has ‘A’ certification for youth elite sports issued by the German Olympic Committee and the highest baseball coaching license available in germany. Recently, Alper’s work on the “relative age effect in German baseball” was published in the German Olympic Committee Magazine.

Alper has had numerous speaking engagements in the past including the ABCA Convention, DBV Convention, and at ISG International. 

To date, Alper has successfully placed five players from the Paderborn program at appropriate college levels in the U.S.

He has been heavily involved in the development of baseball youth in Europe—primarily Germany—dating back to 1998. 

As the head coach of the Attnang-Athletics, Alper led his team to an Austrian Bundesliga Championship in 2010. 

Conference Topic Detail

At the conference, Alper will discuss the necessary foundations for athletic movements like hitting, how instructors at the academy use different methods to approach hitting, and how the body self-organizes while learning new movements. He will explain the tools the academy utilizes and present videos of practices that show the tools in use.

 

Clemens Cichocki

“Bundesstützpunkttrainer”, Bonn Capitals / Pitching Coach, U18 German National Team

Clemens is the current “Bundesstützpunkttrainer” with the Bonn Capitals of Germany, the “Landestrainer” for the North Rhine-Westphalia region of Germany, and the Pitching Coach for the U18 German National Team.

He is also the former Head Coach of the Austrian U23 National Team. Clemens spent a number of years as the player-coach for the Hard Bulls of the Austrian Bundesliga before hanging them up to accept the coaching position with the Capitals. 

The Austrian-born pitcher holds a Master’s Degree in Sports Science and was one of the first of his countrymen to play college baseball, playing at Eastern Oregon University.

Clemens spent his entire playing career on the Austrian National Team and was the Austrian Bundesliga MVP in 2007 and 2009.

In 2011, Cichocki traveled back to the U.S. to complete college, playing baseball at Arizona Western.
